Clarion Builds Bridges in China

Our students have visited China for an unforgettable week of cultural enrichment, marking a significant milestone in our international partnerships. The group received a prestigious welcome as part of the Sino-British People to People Exchange Programme, hosted by the High School Affiliated to Beijing Normal University. This warm reception set the stage for a week dedicated to immersion, history, and building global connections.
The journey began with awe-inspiring visits to iconic landmarks. In Beijing, the scale of the Great Wall left a lasting impression on the group, with Hariny in Year 10 noting that the experience was "amazing" and expressing a deep desire to see more of such a vast and vibrant country. The exploration continued in Nanjing, where students delved into the region's rich heritage at the Nanjing Museum and the Nanjing City Wall Museum. Here, they learned about the philosopher Confucius and the architectural marvel of the City Wall—a structure designed by the Hongwu Emperor of the Ming Dynasty that stood as the longest in the world until the 17th century.
Beyond the monuments, the trip has focused on hands-on participation in traditional Chinese life. During visits to Nanjing Xianlin Foreign Language School and Nanjing No.29 Middle School, our students stepped into the shoes of local peers. They took part in a diverse range of activities, from feeding animals on a school farm and practicing the elegant art of traditional calligraphy to mastering culinary techniques in a dedicated workshop.
The group also took a moment to focus on well-being by learning Ba Duan Jin, a form of Qigong dating back over 1,000 years. This ancient health exercise, which coordinates flowing movements with rhythmic breathing, provided a serene contrast to the busy pace of travel. Throughout the week, trying traditional cuisine and navigating new customs has allowed our students to truly immerse themselves in the local culture, returning with memories and skills that transcend the classroom.
We look forward to continued collaboration with our partners in China and thank them for their incredible hospitality.
